Chocolate Orange Mousse

This is such an easy low-stress dessert that can be prepared in 5 minutes! The fresh orange juice and zest go amazingly with the rich dark cacao and the creaminess of the coconut milk. A few cacao nibs and some orange zest makes this dessert look really impressive - no one has to know it only took a few minutes!

To get the most out of this recipe, choose raw and unsweetened cacao powder. Cocoa powder still has its benefits, but because it has been roasted at high temperatures, it has a lower nutritional value and a lot of the enzymes have been damaged. So while cacao powder does usually cost a little bit more, we think it's worth investing in! Because we exercise a lot, we love to include foods with lots of magnesium. Luckily this means lots of chocolatey foods! Magnesium plays a role in more than 600 biochemical reactions in your body. It helps to relax your nerves and muscles and flush out lactic acid. Goodbye, sore muscles! And for the ladies, it has been shown to reduce PMS symptoms. And while a lot more research is needed, magnesium has been shown to fight depression as much as anti-depressant drugs. The high levels of antioxidants in cacao powder also reduces oxidative stress in the body and boosts your immune system. Combine this cacao powder with chia seeds and this dessert is a nutritional powerhouse! Chia seeds are particularly great for veggies because they contain a high level of omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 makes up a vital component of the membrane that surrounds every cell in your body and helps your endocrine (hormone-producing) system. These seeds are also incredibly high in fibre. 1 TBSP of chia seeds can provide you with 20% of your daily fibre needs. This is great for your digestive health and can really help relieve symptoms in IBS sufferers.


  • 1 can coconut cream
  • 4 TBSP chia seeds
  • 2 TBSP maple syrup/honey
  • 50g cacao powder
  • zest of 1 orange
  • juice of ½ orange

*Serves 4-6


  • Combine all of the ingredients in a blender and blend until completely smooth - about 3 minutes.
  • Pour into jars or ramekins and place in the fridge for 3 hours. Or make this a day in advance and leave overnight.
  • Top with orange zest, cacao nibs or a few berries.
